Christ and the Son of David
Christ and the Son of David
Mark 12:35-37 『And Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that Christ is the son of David? For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool. David therefore himself called him Lord; and whence is he then his son his? And the common people heard him gladly.』
The Bible talks about “Christ before he came to this world, about the One who came to this world in the flesh, about Christ who is resurrected, ascended to heaven, and returns.”
Before Jesus Christ came to this world, He was Jehovah God (The LORD). Because of the spirit of the angel who sinned, Jehovah God predestined Christ (the Lord) to go into the dust and become the first man, and then put him to sleep again (death: a type of the cross) and separated him into men and women, and gave him to all humans. He gave away his physical body. So, God pours the spirit of the angel who sinned into the bodies of humans being born. However, as planned, God was born as the last man, Adam (a type of resurrection), and gave a spiritual body (resurrection: clothes of Christ) to those who repent, opening the way to return to the kingdom of God.
Christ (The Lord) came into the world in various forms. He appeared in various ways, such as in the form of Melchisedek, the king of Shelem, in the form of the one who judged Sodom and Gomorrah, and in the form of the one who gave the covenant to Abraham from the oak tree. Jesus said he was with Abraham.
In John 8:55-59, “Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying.Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad. Then said the Jews to him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am. Then they took up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.』
“Christ born into the world to fulfill the covenant of atonement” refers to Jesus who had to die on the cross. This person was the first man, Adam, who came to the world and gave humans a mortal body, and had the mission of making atonement for the body of sin. That is why Jesus said, “It is finished on the cross.” Regarding Jesus Christ, who was born for this purpose, the Bible explains the lineage issue.
In Matthew 22:41-45, “They say to him, He will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard to other husbandmen, which shall render him the fruits in their seasons. Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and is it marvelous in our eyes? Therefore say to you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof. And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder. And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard his parables, they perceived that he spake of them.”
『Jesus, Son of David』 appears in Matthew 1:1. 『The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham.』 Hiu means son (descendant). A son does not mean a son through physical lineage, but a son as someone who can do ministry. At that time, only men served in ministry. So, a man who became an adult was expressed as a son. Rather than the concept of a descendant, a son is a son as a minister of the kingdom of God.
In the Bible, the person who appears in the genealogy is usually one of the children. Sometimes there are two, but the reason one appears is to continue the genealogy of people of faith. However, the Bible divides the fourteen generations from Abraham to Jesus into thirds. So there are 42 households in total. The Bible shows that over the course of 42 generations, each generation of faith continued uninterrupted. This means that faith began with Abraham, and the same faith as Abraham has continued. Jesus is not the one born from Mary's husband Joseph, but the Christ born from Mary through the power of the Holy Spirit. So, it's not about lineage. The faith of Abraham is a faith that is believed even though it cannot be hoped for. Christ's faith can be summarized in death and resurrection.
It mentions Christ's resurrection, ascension and second coming. Jesus died on the cross, resurrected three days later, stayed with his disciples for forty days, and then ascended to heaven. In Matthew 23:37-39, “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a he gathereth her chickens under her wings.” , and ye would not! Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord. That is why Jesus Christ, who came to this world, is the Lord.
『The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.』 The LORD above is the God of the throne. The “my Lord” in the back refers to Christ who was resurrected and sits on the right side of the throne. And Christ returns. For those who have a new temple built in the hearts of faithful believers, the second coming of Christ has occurred and the kingdom of God has appeared. However, for those who do not, the White Throne Judgment will come on the last day.
